Tacloban looks absolutely gorgeous from your photos. I know it’s not something that you do a lot, but I really adore travelling solo. It means that I get to see and do what I want, when I want. I’m more likely to wander around exploring and getting lost. I think it’s a great way to see the world.

I think the Filiphines are a great country, with great food, too! I’d love to visit!

This looks like a beautiful place to explore for a couple of days. Isn’t it amazing how quickly they rebuild after natural disasters? I’m always amazed at the speed of rebuilding entire cities when construction on highways sometimes takes several years!

The Filipinos generally amaze me with how unfazed they seem to be at facing storms, typhoons, earthquakes, etc. They just get on with it. It’s a great attitude.

It’s such a wonder that after the typhoon, things got better even without aids. I’d love to visit Tacloban and enjoy such history as you did and also get on the cruise. A visit to Tacloban can never be boring because I’d have a lot to feed my curiosity.

    • Teja says:

Well…. yes and no. Lots of countries gave aid to the Philippines, or so I read. But then disbursing it to the struck regions was tied up for a long time in red tape, so you’re probably right that effectively it rebounded on its own steam.

Loved the detail of the history and the culture being deep! Thanks for these photos. Feels like I visited there as well!

Beautiful post! I love the way you tied the history to your story…a place of turning points. Your first solo trip will always be a special memory!

Loved reading the second part of this story :) Tacloban looks really lovely.

The first solo trip – first anything, really – is always a major milestone. I remember the first time I stepped into a hostel alone, feeling so nervous. I like that you chose a less famous destination (at least to me) like Tacloban for yours!

    • Teja says:

Yes, I think Tacloban isn’t really a famous destination, globally speaking. It just sort of happened that way. :) But I’m glad it did.

I would love to take a drive on San Juanico Bridge and the boat cruise also sounds promising. Looks like Tacloban has a lot to offer. I will follow your tips when I plan a trip here
